Slovenia travel diary

I've very recently been to Slovenia and of course I had to share this adventure with you by talking about what we did and see!

Day 1

Here I am, sitting on a plane, having slept but one hour as we spent the night in the airport. The mountains of Slovenia are vast approaching and my excitement follows. It's a wonderful chilly and misty morning as we touch the ground and we immediately go on our way to see Bled. I didn't see much of the journey as I was in and out of consciousness, but the town was adorable. We did some groceries and headed our way to the castle, which gave an awesome view over a lake and surrounding mountains! It was pretty much the dreamy picture with an island in the middle of the lake, holding a cool looking building. Not long after, we decided to head to the holiday home to catch up on some sleep, which we all very much needed.

Day 2

This was the day we found out how absolutely stunning the water here is. We walked along a river which was the clearest blue/green I've ever seen. The water was hidden underneath the rocks and traveled down into a wide river. We had some fun on a bridge, you know, the rope ones that wiggle when you wiggle on it. We skipped some rocks in the water and took a trail upstream where my husband found a dragonfly wing and an intense black spider. The ground was filled with all kinds of different little plants and the place overall had a little fairytale feel about it.

Next we went to climb a very steep mountain, which had loads of rocks lying around. Which made the climbing annoying sometimes but we did it! The little foresty area looked very magical with all the moss covered rocks and trees. My husband spotted a praying mantis which he very excitedly showed us, as we've never seen one before, so that was very cool! Once we were high enough to see a view we saw a waterfall, mountains and the valley where we came from. It's funny to see how much you've walked, especially if it's in height.

Oh, we also saw a bunch of lovely cows and a chapel thing surrounded by inky mushrooms. I found some ferns aswell to run around over the hills with.

Day 3

Today we saw a BEAUTIFUL waterfall. It was super close to our accommodation, but the place we stay at is already so gorgeous anyways. The waterfall was already stunning from the ground and there were two extra levels where you could view it, so we did both. It's so impressive to see so much water fall from a mountain, to feel the slightly wet wind blow your way from the impact and hear it traveling down the hill. Once we soaked it all up (including the droplets), we climbed towards the second waterfall level and onwards to the top. It was loads of climbing on almost our hands and feet and a continuation of losing and finding the trail, but we got there! The view we had was absolutely breathtaking. It was quite misty in some places, making the tops look so mysterious, which I love so much. The pine trees had tiny rain drops on every end of their leaf things, which turned to sparkles in the reflection of the sun. We admired the view for a while before heading back to civilization. While floating around in the forest we saw soo many different kinds of mushrooms. Blue, purple, blinding white, yellow, ones on trees, ones on the ground. Let's just say we saw PLENTY. We kept losing the trail over and over again, once nearly going down a ravine, but we made it back and that's what counts!

Day 4

Going to the top of a mountain? Yes, yes we shall. After going on a wrong path that looked like I was about to step into Narnia while pushing my way through pine bushes, we started heading the right way towards the top. It was a very intense and dramatic climb. Most of it we had to do on our hands and feet, while keeping an eye if we were still on the path - since it was near impossible to see sometimes. After 4 hours and 700m upwards we got to the part where it became too dangerous for us to continue without any gear, so we chilled near a cliff and headed our way back down. You'd think climbing is hard, until you go down a steep rocky mountain, it's just less intense on your muscles!
The mist subsided almost completely on our way back, so we could see the view way better than on the way up. It was beautiful.

We had found a hill with grass and little rocks, which were layed down as a heart which was cute. While going back we saw some long haired cows (adorable) and went out to dinner. Muscle strain here we come!

Day 5

We have decided we shall go to see a river and waterfall you have to pay for. Luckily it was worth it. The water was so clear and turquoise, which made it easy to see all that's within, like fish swimming along with the current and a lot of cool looking rocks. The hundreds of little waterfalls were lovely and brought the calming sound of water along the entire walk. It went on for a while and ended in a bigger waterfall, which everyone wanted pictures of. It was alot smaller than the one we saw a couple of days ago though - which was free - so not everything that requires payment means it's the prettiest. ;)

Of course, if you're in another country you gotta see the capital city. Although I was so incredibly tired and the people around me didn't help with that, it was cool to see some fun buildings and the area with three bridges. It was literally just three bridges next to each other where there could just be one, so funny. We grabbed an ice cream and went to walk around a castle on a hill, which gave us a view on the city where I spotted a building that looked like a taco. We started to get hungry (not because of the taco building) and headed our way to some lovely and warm pizza.
There was this little area that used to be something of the military and is now taken over by people skating, playing games and music. There was art on buildings, gardens and walls as far as the eye could see. I love places like that, reminded me alot of my stay in Berlin and always gives me such a carefree feel! People being themselves, having fun and letting out their creative side.
The city was alot more chill in the dark and I loved it way better that way! But what can you say, maybe vampires are a little biased.

Day 6

Walking in the rain, apple in hand, looking at the leaves floating in the air. It couldn't be any more autumn. We took a walk near our accommodation this time, since it was so rainy - and we came across some beautiful places. There was loads of fog and silence, which made it absolutely peaceful. Then we found some fire salamanders, so adorable. After jumping over the little streams in the riverbed my legs and feet got wet enough for me to long for a warm and cozy couch chill under a blanket.

In the evening we felt it would be appropriate to have one last hike in this country and explored the neighbouring village a little bit. Our village looked so beautiful, a sea of lights nestled in between the mountains, a crescent moon looking over the land. Evenings always smell so much nicer than daylight hours, always so peaceful and joyful.

Tomorrow we are leaving for home already and I know I'm going to miss this nature tremendously. I'm happy to have been able to go to Slovenia! Now back home, to our snakes and my art supplies.

Until our next journey,
